Physical Exams

At MJHealth Medical Spa, we also offer physical exams. These types of exams could be required for a number of reasons; sports, employment, insurance purposes, or even just as an annual checkup! Even if you aren’t required to get a physical exam, knowing that you are taking the steps to stay on top of your health, can give you a great peace of mind. At MJHealth Medical Spa, we believe that your health should be a priority.

What is a physical exam?

A physical exam, also known as a wellness check, is an overall examination of your health. Most doctors recommend you get a physical exam once a year, and it’s a great time to talk to a doctor about any issues you may have noticed with your health. Your doctor will likely ask you questions about your lifestyle, as well as run any tests they believe are necessary to ensure you are in good health. It’s always best to stay ahead of any health problems by catching them in the early stages, an annual physical exam is a great option to stay ahead of the game!

Why would I want a physical exam?

There are a number of reasons you would want to get a physical exam. Depending on your age, medical, and family history, you may have a greater risk for certain illnesses, so a physical exam is the perfect time to speak to a doctor about any health concerns you may have. The doctor will run tests based on your personal risk factors, and identify issues that may become medical concerns in the future. It’s also a great time to update your immunizations, and talk to a doctor about your current diet and exercise routine to see if there is anything that could be improved upon. The doctor will be checking things like your blood pressure, blood sugar. The results will be a great indicator to show us if anything in your body is off, even if you are not showing any signs or symptoms. Getting treatment early prevents these conditions from progressing in severity.

How should I prepare for a physical exam?

If you are asking this question, then you are on the right track. Coming to your physical exam appointment fully prepared will help you get the most out of your visit. Wear comfortable clothing and avoid excessive makeup and jewelry; this will make the exam easier to perform and ensure that nothing is missed. Making a list before your appointment is a great tool to ensure that you do not forget to mention something important to your doctor. When making a list, it is a great idea to note any current concerns you may have; whether it is pain or abnormal symptoms you are experiencing. All medications (prescription and over the counter) and supplements that you are currently taking should also be noted. Lastly, don’t forget to include any questions you have for the doctor or anything else you may want to discuss.

What should I expect after a physical exam?

After a physical exam is completed you are free to get back to your day as usual. You may get a follow up phone call or email from your doctor to go over any test results. This isn’t necessarily bad news, so don’t get stressed out if you see your doctor calling you – doctors often call with good news as well. Depending on the results of your tests, we may need to schedule a follow-up exam and/or some additional tests. If nothing of concern is found, then you can rest assured you are in good health and are all set until next year.
